Modern Madrid or Bourbon Madrid, East of the old town once stretched the idyllic district of Prado (meadow). In the 16th century a monastery was built here, which the Habsburgs later expanded into a palace. The former palace garden is now open to the public as Retiro Park. The Bourbon rulers, Carlos III, expanded the city in this direction and built magnificent squares with fountains, a triumphal arch and the later Prado Museum, one of the most important art museums in the world, around the Paseo del Prado. From Puerta del Sol the city center we walk through San Jerónimo Street towards the Neptuno Fountain with an information stop at the Spanish Congress in front of the statue of Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote de La Mancha, the most translated book in the history of mankind after the Bible. Then we walk through the Paseo del PRADO
towards the Royal Botanical Garden and the El Prado Museum. and later with a tour of the Retiro Park to see the Crystal Palace and also the great pond of el Retiro. After that we will see the Alcalá Gate and the Town Hall (Palacio de Cibeles), the most beautiful building in the city and also the Fountain of Cibeles (an icon of the city).
This tour would last between 2.5 and 3 hours, depending on the rhythm of the guests.
