The Timeless Thames: Discover London's River With a Local
Tour description
Do you like to get off the beaten path and discover a city's hidden secrets? If so, then join me as we venture where few tourists go, into the neighborhoods of Bermondsey and Rotherhithe, and learn about London's famous River Thames.
Lasting around 2 hours, this guided walk will start at the south end of Tower Bridge and head eastward, stopping at many historic sites that tell the story of the Thames. You will learn how the river allowed the city to grow from a small trading outpost on the edge of the Roman Empire to one of the world's most important cities.
You'll visit many places of historical interest, including the medieval ruins of King Edward III's riverside manor house and London's oldest police station. You'll also "meet" some of the area's most famous residents before finishing the tour at one of the oldest pubs on the river, and the launching point of one of history's most famous ships.
As well as visiting many fascinating local attractions away from the crowds of central London, you'll also enjoy stunning views over the River Thames as you learn about London's historic waterway.
Your guide, a native of the area and history enthusiast, will share his experience of living and growing up in the area and share stories and local knowledge that even many Londoners do not know.
