The Beer Route: A Tour of London's Most Historic Pubs
Description
London has thousands of pubs. But hidden within the ancient City — the original square mile where London was founded — there are a handful of taverns that most visitors, and even most Londoners, never find.
On this two-hour walk, I'll take you through cobblestone alleys and secret courtyards to visit pubs that have been serving drinks since the 17th century. We stop at a candlelit tavern where Charles Dickens was a regular, a Victorian gin palace that still retains its original etched glass and mahogany bar, and a 17th-century inn so hidden that it has no street entrance — you enter through a narrow passage that feels like stepping back in time.
Along the way, you'll hear the stories behind the stones: the Great Fire that destroyed most of the City, the writers and rebels who drank here, the tunnels beneath your feet, and the London that not all tourists get to see.
This is a small group tour — usually no more than 10 people — which means you'll really hear the stories, be able to ask questions, and won't feel like just another tourist.
Drinks are not included in the price — you're welcome to drink as much or as little as you like at each stop, at your own pace. Some guests opt for a pint at each pub, others simply enjoy the atmosphere. Either option is perfectly fine.
I'm Mauricio — I've been guiding these streets for years, and I truly love sharing them. Come for the history, stay for the anecdotes. See you at St Paul's.
