Tour description

I’m Moensch Micha, and I warmly invite you on a unique journey through Mainz’s enchanting Altstadt —where ancient history meets mindful presence, and every fountain tells a story worth savoring.

As a direct student of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, I offer more than a typical city tour. After years in Buddhist monasteries in France, New York, and California, I’ve discovered that the most meaningful travel experiences happen when we slow down, breathe deeply, and see what’s truly in front of us.

What makes this tour special?
Picture this: we wander through the picturesque old town, pausing at each beautiful fountain not just to admire its history, but to practice walking meditation—feeling every cobblestone beneath our feet as I share fascinating stories and quirky local secrets. Together, we’ll explore how to find calm and clarity in the little moments.

Here’s where it gets deliciously different—drinking and snacking meditation! Whether savoring a Riesling or mindfully enjoying a pretzel, you’ll learn Buddhist techniques that transform ordinary moments into joyful, meaningful experiences.

Expect laughter, surprising insights, and those ”aha!” moments where mindfulness meets Mainz’s rich heritage. This tour blends ancient wisdom with fresh perspective—perfect for anyone seeking both cultural depth and inner peace.

Ready to see Mainz with new eyes? Let’s make some mindful memories together!

Highlights

What will we see on this tour?

Meeting point:
Fischtorbrunnen, Rheinstraße, 55116 Mainz, Germany
I will be by the fountain with a red GuruWalk shirt
1
Outside visit
Fischtorbrunnen
Located between the riverbank and the Dom’s east choir, this 1930/31 Art Deco-style fountain features lively fish leaping over stone spheres, with water arching playfully from multiple jets. Often called the “Quellmänner un Hering” (boiled potatoes and herring), it celebrates Mainz’s riverside traditions and the everyday livelihoods of local fishermen, inviting locals and visitors alike to pause beside its refreshing sprays.
2
Outside visit
Historischer Renaissance-Marktbrunnen
Built in 1526 by Archbishop Albrecht of Brandenburg, this is one of Germany’s oldest Renaissance fountains. Decorated with allegorical scenes about virtue and the historic Peasants’ War, it served both as an important water source and symbolic reminder of civic order.
3
Outside visit
Höfchenbrunnen
The Höfchenbrunnen is a historic fountain on Höfchen square, the westernmost plaza surrounding Mainz Cathedral, where the archbishop's residence once stood until the 15th century. Surrounded by trees providing shade and benches for visitors, it offers a refreshing gathering spot in Mainz's old town between Gutenbergplatz and the cathedral square.
