Welcome to Brno - Urban Mosaic Free Walking Tour

The tour is between 1.5-2 hours, within the previously fortified old city of Brno. Walking distance: 1.8 kilometers

  1. St. Peter and Paul Cathedral - We start at the top of the hill,  I explain some of the history and beauty of the 11th century chapel which is now a cathedral and the dominant feature of Brno.
  2.  View point below the Cathedral - Overlooking the city I explain a bit the textile industrial history of Brno, rich barons and working-class city districts.  
  3.  Baroque fountain on Cabbage Market - Learn about the market history, Baroque fountain and surrounding buildings. 
  4. Old City Hall - Learn about the oldest secular building in the city, its 3 curious stories and what it has to offer. 
  5. Freedom square and astronomical clock - Learn about the clock, square, plague column and surrounding buildings.  
  6. Czech Street - Learn about this street, the center of Czech cultural life during the Revival.  
  7. John of Luxembourg  -  Learn about who he was,  once King of Rome!  
  8. Map of the old fortified city -  The Swedish Siege in 1645 and 5 gates. 
  9. St. Jacob's church -  Learn about one of the country’s most valuable late Gothic buildings, the savior of Brno and the little man.
  10. Alpha Palace -  Learn about this functionalist architectural landmark, it's architect and importance. 
  11. Best Photo spot - Lastly,  I end the tour taking you to the best photo spot in the city.

View point below the CathedralHere I explain a bit the textile industrial history of Brno, which is why it became so important to the Austrian Empire. I elaborate about the mill owners and their magnificent villas versus the poor working classes, all while standing at a viewpoint with an overview of the southern part of the city and its previous industrial areas.

Parnas fountain on Cabbage Market (Zelny trh)Next I move to Cabbage market with its Baroque fountain, a protected cultural landmark, telling a brief history of the square itself and its surroundings, theatre, underground.

Old City Hall Continuing on to the oldest secular building in the city, we walk through its courtyard and I explain briefly about the artifacts and rooms inside, the three famous curiosities on and in the building and their fascinating stories attached.
