Gustav III:s Obelisk: The King’s Giant “Thank You NoteThis 30-meter granite monument was erected in 1800 as a royal thank-you to the citizens of Stockholm who defended the city during war with Russia. Originally planned by Gustav III but completed by his son Gustav IV Adolf, the obelisk was rebuilt in 2020 after the old stone cracked. Today it weighs nearly 300 tons and towers over Slottsbacken as a symbol of loyalty and resilience.
