Tour description
This city isn’t simply visited; it is lived, breathed and truly felt. Join us on a vibrant free walking tour where every street holds secrets, every stone carries memories and every corner echoes with centuries of academic magic.
We begin by the impressive statue of King Dinis, founder of the historic University of Coimbra, before heading to the majestic Courtyard of Schools, home to stunning views and the ancient Roman gate that once welcomed empires.
Our path continues to the elegant New Cathedral and then down to the Old Cathedral, a Romanesque treasure that seems lifted from a medieval scene. From there, we wander through the narrow, winding streets of old Coimbra, filled with legends and small hidden charms.
We pass through the Almedina Gate and Tower, guardians of the city for centuries, and arrive at lively Commerce Square, once a bustling crossroads for merchants and travelers.
The tour concludes at the picturesque Largo da Portagem, overlooking the shimmering Mondego River and the romantic ruins of the Santa Clara Monastery, a place deeply tied to Queen Saint Isabel and her timeless stories.
