Guided tour of Sant Feliu de Guíxols
Description
Sant Feliu de Guíxols is one of the most important towns on the Costa Brava. There's a saying that describes it as a "golden cage full of owls," and it's true. It's a town that hides little gems. Let me help you discover the secrets of this place on the Costa Brava.
----
We begin the tour at the modern port, where we'll discover one of the steam locomotives that connected the city to Girona until the 1960s. Next, we'll head to the medieval port, where the remains of the first settlers were found and where the saint who gave the city its name died. Afterward, we'll stroll through the narrow streets of Sant Feliu, where we'll discover the medieval townscape and the beautiful buildings left behind by the wealthy bourgeoisie who dedicated themselves to the cork trade, such as the casino. Passing the old hospital and the city's market, where we can discuss local cuisine, we'll approach the remains of the important Benedictine monastery. If you wish, we can optionally extend our tour and climb Mount Sant Elm, where the chapel of the same name stands, offering a magnificent view of the coast. According to some accounts, this view inspired the writer Ferran Agulló to give the Costa Brava its name more than 100 years ago.
