This free tour of Ávila's legends is an invitation to discover the city through words that do not appear in history books but have been part of the collective memory for centuries, that oral tradition that turns man into myth and myth into legend.
Throughout the tour, we will not only talk about monuments but also about stories and their protagonists, beliefs, and traditions that gave meaning and identity to these corners, building a closer and more fantastic narrative of the walled city.
An experience designed to understand Ávila from its most human dimension, where each story brings us closer to the past, to the way its inhabitants understood the world and gave meaning to their surroundings.
Itinerary
The imposing walls of Ávila not only protected the city for centuries... they also hold stories that have survived the passage of time. To unveil them, we will meet at the indicated time in the heart of the city.
We will begin our route by entering the street of Cruz Vieja, popularly known as the street of Life and Death. There we will discover one of Ávila's most famous legends before heading to the portico of the Cathedral of the Savior. Its walls hide enigmatic figures and symbols that few manage to decipher...
We will continue walking through the narrow alleys of the old town, declared a World Heritage Site, until we reach the basilica of San Vicente. This impressive Romanesque temple stands out not only for its beauty but also for the legendary story surrounding its origin.
During the tour, we will make stops at emblematic places such as the Town Hall Square and the Puerta del Rastro, the setting of a love story that defies time. Very close by, in front of the birthplace of Teresa of Jesus, we will learn some of the lesser-known secrets of this universal figure.
After approximately two hours filled with stories, milestones, and curiosities, we will conclude this free tour through the old town, with the feeling of having traveled through Ávila's most legendary time.
