Free Walking Tour through Nice

Discover Nice on an entertaining and engaging tour full of exciting stories, surprising details, and fascinating insights into the past of this special city.

We begin at the Castle Hill with an impressive panoramic view over the city, sea, and harbor. Here you will learn why Nice was founded at this location and how the former fortress shaped the city's history.

Afterwards, we explore the winding alleys of the Old Town (Vieux Nice) with its lively squares. Historical maps and old photographs reveal how Nice has changed over the centuries. We continue along the Promenade des Anglais to the Place Masséna with its famous fountain.

During the tour, you will learn exciting facts about:

the origins of the ancient settlement Nikaia
the fortress of Nice and its destruction by Louis XIV
Catherine Ségurane and the siege of 1543
the Rue Droite, once the most important street in Nice

Meeting point:Imbiss Comptoir des AngesWe will meet at the snack bar "Comptoir des Anges" on the castle hill. From here, you already have a breathtaking view, perfect for the first photos. I will be on site about 15 minutes before the start of the tour to welcome you; you will recognize me by the lavender-colored folder in my hands. You can reach the meeting point either via one of the ascents or conveniently with the free elevator (Ascenseur du Château). In both cases, plan enough time – especially in summer, there can be waiting times for the elevator (but you wait in the shade).
