Hellevoetsluis in the big/world history

In this tour, we will focus on Hellevoetsluis and its role in world history. The tour mainly covers the harbour and fortress area of the town.

From the 15th to the 19th century, Hellevoetsluis played an important role in European maritime history. We will look especially at its importance for the Dutch navy, its involvement in the Anglo-Dutch Wars, and its connection to the VOC and WIC. The Battle of Hellevoetsluis will also be discussed during the tour.

I will include some local history as well, but the main focus will remain on the broader historical significance of Hellevoetsluis.
