Ayutthaya Walking Tour: Stories Behind the Ruins

The tour lasts 3 hours
Available in English and French

Description

Step beyond the famous temple ruins and discover the stories that shaped Ayutthaya, the former capital of Siam.

Starting from Ayutthaya Railway Station, we will take a short local ferry ride across the river and walk through Chao Phrom Market, where local residents still shop for fresh food and daily necessities. This is a great opportunity to experience everyday life in Ayutthaya before exploring its historic treasures.
From there, we enter the UNESCO-listed historic island and explore some of the most important sites of the ancient kingdom. Along the way, learn how Ayutthaya became one of Asia's greatest trading cities, welcomed merchants from around the world, and developed into a powerful kingdom that flourished for more than 400 years.
We will visit Wat Mahathat, famous for the Buddha head entwined in tree roots, discover the fascinating history of Wat Ratchaburana, and finish at Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the former royal temple located within the ancient palace grounds.
As we walk through the heart of the old capital, you will hear stories of kings, foreign traders, religious traditions, and the events that shaped Thai history. This tour offers a deeper understanding of Ayutthaya beyond the ruins, connecting the city's glorious past with the local life that continues today.

Please note that temple entrance fees are 80 THB per temple for foreign visitors and are not included in the tour. A local ferry crossing fee of approximately 10–15 THB per person is also required.
