Free evening tour of Gion and Geisha districts in Italian

Gion is the most fascinating and best-preserved district of ancient Kyoto: the heart of the Geisha world. In this free tour, I will accompany you on foot, in Italian, to discover it.

We start from the statue of Izumo no Okuni, the woman credited with the birth of kabuki, on the banks of the Kamo River. We walk along the Shirakawa canal and cross the Tatsumi Bridge, one of the city's most elegant views, then reach the Yasaka Shrine. From there, we ascend towards Higashiyama along Nene no Michi and the Ninenzaka slope, up to the iconic view of the pagoda of the Hokan-ji temple. We will cross the historic Hanamikoji Avenue and its multitude of tea houses where the Geisha work, pass by the illuminated Minami-za theater, and end at Pontochō, the lantern-lit alley along the river.

Along the way, I will tell you the history of Gion and the centuries-old tradition of the Geisha, and if we are lucky, we might encounter some!
