Day Trip Details
We will convene at the designated time at the Alacant bus stop, conveniently located near the port of Alicante, from where we will embark on a bus journey southward.
Our adventure commences at the Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja Natural Park, where the first highlight awaits: the stunning Pink Lake. Ever wondered why this body of water boasts such an extraordinary hue? Strolling along its banks, we will uncover the secrets behind its coloration and explore the salt extraction process. If your visit falls between February and May, keep an eye out for the fascinating flamingos that inhabit this area.
Following an hour of exploration at the Pink Lake, our voyage continues towards Santa Pola. Here, we will board a boat bound for the island of Tabarca, the sole inhabited island in the Valencian Community.
Upon arrival, you'll partake in a brief guided tour of Tabarca, highlighting its key features, including the notable Baroque church of San Pedro and San Pablo. The gates of San Gabriel and San Miguel also deserve a mention, as they are situated adjacent to the historical walls surrounding the old town.
After the guided portion, you will have 3 hours of leisure time on Tabarca to wander, take a refreshing swim, or savor a traditional rice meal featuring local rock fish.
We will reconvene at the Tabarca port for our return trip to Santa Pola, where a brief walking tour awaits. Key sights include the imposing castle and the vibrant Central Market. You will then have an hour at your disposal to further discover the town.
To conclude this enriching 11-hour journey, we will set off from Santa Pola back to our initial meeting point in Alicante.
