For those visiting Madrid and wishing to explore works of renowned Spanish artists, including Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí, acquiring a ticket to the essential Museo Reina Sofía is a must.
Reasons to Explore the Museo Reina Sofía
The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía stands as one of the premier art museums in Madrid. It is part of the city’s Golden Triangle of Art, alongside the Prado and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza.
Within its walls, visitors can appreciate seminal works by illustrious artists like Greco, Goya, and Velázquez. A highlight of the collection is Picasso's iconic painting Guernica, a poignant response to the bombing of the Basque town during the Spanish Civil War.
This museum was established to complement the exhibitions at the Prado. The artworks here date from 1881 onwards, coinciding with the birth of Pablo Picasso, indicative of a different artistic movement that diverges from the older pieces displayed at the Prado.
Since its inception in 1992, the museum has amassed one of the largest repositories of contemporary art globally, making it one of Spain's most visited modern art establishments.
