Leave the urban pace behind for a hiking escape to Montanejos. Your journey centers on the Sendero de los Estrechos, a renowned 11-kilometer circular trail that highlights the raw power of the Mijares River. Over the course of approximately four hours, you will navigate a landscape carved by millennia of water erosion, resulting in a striking gorge that showcases the region's geological history.
The hike involves an elevation gain of about 400 meters, providing a moderate challenge that rewards you with continuous views of the turquoise river below. You will cross from one side of the canyon to the other, experiencing the scale of the 100-meter-high limestone cliffs from multiple angles. The most iconic section of the hike leads you through the narrowest part of the gorge—a passage only 25 meters wide where the vertical walls dominate the horizon.
After completing the route, the focus shifts from exertion to relaxation. You will head directly to the Fuente de los Baños. These natural thermal springs are legendary for their mineral-rich waters and steady temperature. Tucked between the river's high banks, the pools provide a peaceful setting to soothe your muscles and recharge. Whether it’s winter or summer, the water remains a perfect 25°C, offering the ultimate conclusion to your mountain adventure before the return trip to Valencia.
