Free Tours en Dar es-Salam

Derrick was great! He gave us an informative overview of the city, and was able to answer all our questions. He definitely knows his stuff, would highly recommend!

We booked the tour as a way to kill a little bit of time while waiting for our flight and to fill this time with some sightseeing. For this purpose the duration and stops we visited were pretty good but I would warn people that are sensitive to seeing dead animals (even endangered species) and the smell of fish as the tour ends at the local fish market. Sadly some of the places we were supposed to go to were closed which is of course not the guides fault but made the tour a little less special.

Derick was great and offered us a great understanding of the city’s culture and history.

Wir haben sehr coole Orte gesehen und viel mit ihm geredet. Mit Abstand die beste Tour die wir hier in Tansania hatten. Würde es definitiv jedem empfehlen und unterstütze Rashid sehr bei seiner Arbeit. Auch sein Englisch war sehr gut. Vielen Dank und alles Gute.

The tour was great. It provides an interested insight from Dar es Salaam. The fish-market is something special. Beside that, we visited also the normal big market in the city. This place was a nice add-on on the normal tour.

Rashid met us on time and gave us a private tour of Dar es Salaam for more than 4 hours. We were very happy with his company, he's a lovely man who knows a lot of history about the city and Tanzania. He took us round the fish market, kept close to us in Kariako market, we made a stop for juice to take a break from the sun and he took us for lunch at a fantastic food court where we shared a meal of ugali and beans, proper local food! Excellent tour. I would highly recommend.

Rashid was an incredible tour guide! As a local, he took us to places I wouldn’t have explored on my own, like the bustling fish market, and explained everything, as well as answered all our questions thoroughly. This is my first day in Tanzania, so everything is new to me! He shared a wealth of knowledge about Tanzania, Dar es Salaam, and even taught us a few Swahili phrases. Rashid also gave us helpful tips, like when to keep a closer eye on our belongings in the crowded Kariakoo market—though we never had any issues. He introduced us to delicious local foods and even helped me navigate purchases at the market. We ended the day at Coco Beach, relaxing and enjoying the beautiful atmosphere. I highly recommend Rashid—he’s friendly, knowledgeable, and makes you feel like you’ve gained a new friend, not just taken a tour!

Touring downtown Dar es Salaam with Derick is special. He will take you to hidden gems and share a lot of history and fun facts about buildings, streets or markets on the tour.

Walking tours are a great way for me to get a first impression of a city and I am so grateful to Derick for taking us around the city centre and using different spaces, buildings, and monuments to tell the story of Dar es Salaam. From history, culture, to politics; Derick touched upon all important topics and I feel good about exploring the city more. Thank you!

Kelvin is a nice guy. The art trip concentrates on the art market and only that. Kelvin's knowledge of this type of art is limited and he was helped by shop owners. This trip can be done without a guide. A knowledgeable person in Tanzanian art would have been more suitable.

Highly recommend the city walk with Rashid. We started our tour from Askari monument, National museum then took a stroll to the Fish market and walked further and ended our tour at St Joseph Cathedral. As a foreigner, I personally find it a little hard getting around the city by myself but felt very safe and comfortable being escorted around Dar by Rashid. Rashid took time explaining the history of Tanzania at the museum which I was super impressed with the depth of his knowledge and spent a good amount of time at the museum. He always had good answers to all of my questions and responded well. The tour was fun and educational and learned so much during the city walk so thank you very much. Asante Sana. Tomoko

Kelvin was great. Great afternoon! We learned a lot about local life, tried fresh food on the market and learned some new Swahili words :) Would recommend 10/10.

If you ever want to experience how hectic a market is without getting lost and swept away, this is your opportunity. I will never forget this experience and Kelvin is a cool guide. He can gave us a couple of foods to sample on the route which was nice and took us through the many different places of the market we would have had no idea were there.
