And as a small bonus, you’ll even learn a few words in the Basque language. The tour operates on a tips-based system, which means you decide how much the tour was worth to you based on your experience. Teatro Arriaga Antzokia

The Arriaga Theatre is one of the most emblematic and beautiful buildings in Bilbao. Its design, inspired by the Paris Opera, was the work of municipal architect Joaquín Rucoba, and it was inaugurated in 1890. With its imposing neobaroque façade and richly ornamented interior, the theatre has become an architectural landmark in the city, renowned for its elegance and grandeur.

Plazuela de San Nicolás

The Church of San Nicolás de Bari enjoys a privileged location in the center of Bilbao, facing the Areatza Park and just a short distance from Plaza Nueva and the Arriaga Theatre. This beautiful church was designed by the Basque architect Ignacio Ibero and was built between 1743 and 1756. However, its history dates back to a time when the El Arenal promenade in Bilbao was nothing more than a strip of land along the Nervión River, which was frequently flooded.

BBVA

The Banco de Bilbao (now part of the current BBVA) began its operations in 1857 in a ground-floor location on La Estufa Street. In October of the same year, it moved to Ribera Street, and in 1868, it relocated to this imposing building on Plaza de San Nicolás, which was designed by the French architect Eugène Lavalle, with clear influences from the Beaux-Arts style that emerged in Paris in the mid-19th century.
