The "Guru", Jennifer, was sweet and friendly. However, she's not a Guru or a guide. She escorted us from location to location, but it's clear she has put absolutely no effort whatsoever into learning how to be a good guide. She's in university and this is her side gig. It was her 3rd tour. Regardless, she has obviously not received any training as a guide, not learned anything about the history of the places we visited or the city itself (beyond BARELY scratching the surface), and spent zero time learning anything more than very basic anecdotal information. Information was not volunteered. We had to think of questions to ask (even just to break the very long silences), and the responses we received were often just yes/no or "it depends" answers, which were quite useless to help us learn about the places we visited. The Belgian soldier monument was done in complete silence, as we were left to simply read about the history on the walls, and for any questions in the art gallery, she would simply turn and repeat the question to the salesperson in the gallery. Some of the info she gave was inaccurate when cross-checked, and delivery of the info was soft and not particularly unenthusiastic. Again, not useful as a guide. Being a guide is a serious business and should be taken seriously. Guides are a bridge between the tourist and the place visited. They help people learn, get immersed in the culture, and take away memories that can often last a lifetime. If you're afraid of traveling in a foreign city, and you don't know how to take a taxi and just need an escort to bring you from place to place, Jennifer is a good escort. If you're looking for a knowledgeable guide to help you learn about the places you're visiting, the food, the exotic fruits in the market, the history, the anything, then definitely skip this. It would be a waste of your time and money. I gave 2 stars because she was sweet and friendly and she showed up. The other Guru we booked in Kigali didn't even show up.
Very nice tour. We walked around downtown and many other places for around 3 hours.
Cedric is an amazing guide to discover the city and hang out !! He did not put pressure and give you the time to explore enjoy the walk! ☺️
