I am Andrea Kropman, Uruguayan by birth and currently residing in New York. I studied Social Communication in Uruguay, and in Spain I worked for 15 years as Coordinator of Digital Communication. In 2010, I started with the project "Jane's Walks" in Madrid, an international initiative that pays tribute to Jane Jacobs. In recent years I alternated my work as a communicator with the design of tours of the cities I lived in: Madrid, Barcelona and London. Upon arriving in NYC, I became an Official Tourism Guide. You will find me guiding tours of various walking tour agencies and you can check the quality of my work through the opinions of other people who enjoyed my tours. As an inhabitant and migrant from different cities, I have a social and global vision that will provide you with daily information and reveal unknown data.

About the tour

The feminist movement in New York marked the beginning of the second wave and one of the greatest manifestations for the claim and equal rights between women and men. We will know the scenarios of the best known landmarks and the homes of the feminist thinkers that drove those struggles. The square where Emma Goldman gave her well-known “Free Bread” speech, the promoters of the New York suffrage movement, the workers who started the Camisera Strike, the birth control centers, the suffragist movement, the creative and artistic spaces for African-Americans and Latin feminists, the women's prisons where they retained only activists in the period of almost 100 years, and finally, despite everything, the women who continued to fight and fly high for equality, justice and freedom. The itinerary has 10 stops with a duration of 2 hours. We will walk through a part of East Village, Bowery and Greenwich Village. A more extensive tour than others, but that deserves the walk to know the most important points where many women made history. What will we see? The square where the most celebrated Union Square speeches were held; Jefferson Market, an Art Deco building that was the Women's Prison Center; the homes of Emma Goldman, Lorraine Hansberry, Victoria Woodhull, Julia Ward Howe, Amelia Earhart; the meeting space of the Soul Sisters Sauce; the building where the sad event of the fire of the Triangle Waist Co. Shirt Making Factory and the Strike of the shirts took place.

Gracias!

Response from Andrea:

Hola Griselda. Andrea.
