Tour description

Discover the living history of Valparaíso as we explore its oldest neighborhood, the cradle of traditions and a testament to the origins that earned it UNESCO World Heritage status. We’ll start at the iconic Plaza Sotomayor and take historic funiculars to visit parts of the Concepción and Alegre hills, where we’ll admire 19th-century European-inspired architecture—a legacy of immigration that shaped the city—and be captivated by the vibrant street art that brings its colorful streets to life.
Discover the living history of Valparaíso as we explore its oldest neighborhood, the birthplace of local traditions and a witness to the origins that led the city to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We will begin at the iconic Plaza Sotomayor, the historic heart of the city, and then visit the traditional Muelle Prat, where we will talk about Valparaíso’s port history and its close relationship with the sea.
We will continue to the terrace of Mercado Puerto, a privileged viewpoint to observe the Barrio Puerto and enjoy a panoramic view of the historic La Matriz neighborhood, key to understanding Valparaíso’s early urban development.    Later, we will ride the historic funiculars to explore Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre, where we will admire the 19th-century European-influenced architecture, a legacy of the immigration that deeply shaped Valparaíso’s identity, and be amazed by its vibrant street art.
As part of the tour, we will visit two of Valparaíso’s most important art galleries, La Escala and Galería Rojo, ideal spaces to introduce contemporary art and the role of urban art in the city, in a relaxed and approachable way.
