Hello - My name is Neil, I am 65 years old and have Lived and worked in Liverpool all of my life. I am a great admirer of the city, its people and its culture. I have been working as a local guide since 2012 undertaking over 200 full day tours in and around the city. I am happy and proud to report I consistently receive 5 STAR reviews for my tours and will endeavour to ensure this continues. This free walking tour is the culmination of my work so far. I have been astonished at the changes to the city landscape over the last 20 years and have witnessed the resurgence of Liverpool to become once again a global city of importance. I will be proud to guide you through this cities many wonderful attractions. I often say my life my earliest memory at the age of eight was hearing the iconic roll of drums that opened the Beatles first massive hit 'She Loves You' on the radio. My love of their unique sound and melodies has never diminished since. Ever proud of our most famous sons’ Beatles fans will find Liverpool still dances to the Mersey Beat! If you should book a free walking tour with me you will hopefully find me, as others do, a warm and friendly man with a wicked sense of humour and a genuine love for his City. I look forward to meeting you and sharing safely an unforgettable experience of Liverpool.

Tour description

Greetings from Liverpool! My name is Neil, and for the last ten years, it has been my great pleasure to work here in Liverpool as a local guide.
Liverpool is my favourite place to be - so full of fun and surprises, always leaving visitors wanting more!
I have spent my whole life living and working in the City, and enjoy nothing more than passing on my knowledge to visitors from all over the world.
Starting at the historic Pier Head, on the River Mersey, we see all parts of our UNESCO World Heritage site.
These places celebrate and bear witness to the development of one of the world's major trading centres in the 18th, 19th and twentieth Centuries.
But Liverpool is so much more than its history. Its incredible people, diverse culture and amazing architecture are great reasons to visit right now.
Our locals (known as 'Scousers' here in the UK) possess a warmth and wit unique to this place. I aim to pack in enough in our time together to help you orientate yourself and understand what makes Liverpool tick!

The principal places we visit are:

  • Liverpool Pier Head and the Three Graces (World Heritage site)
  • The Beatles Statue (have your picture taken with the 'fab' four!)
  • Liverpool Town Hall and Castle Street (a World Heritage site)
  • Mathew Street and the Cavern Quarter
  • Option to visit inside the world famous Cavern club Or Liverpool's Shopping Centre called Liverpool 1 (amazing new shopping experience) or explore Royal Albert Dock (World heritage site)
  • The River Mersey, see the ferries and finish our walk back by the river.

Along the way I point out the many incredible buildings, museums and visitor attractions here in Liverpool, we don't have time to visit inside all of them of course but this short walking tour is a great opportunity to get to know the City and plan how to get around if you wish to explore later (or come back again as many want to do!)

Come and enjoy!

Neil is a nice growing great enthusiasm toward Liverpool. His English speaking is easy understandable. Since it is a 1.5 hours walking tour, it’s friendly to people of all ages. Neil is local to Liverpool, so he can give you some recommendations of some worth visiting museums or tourists friendly pubs. I would recommend people to attend Neil’s tour if you have limited time or want a whole view of the city.

A very good and informative trip, guru knows the subject very well. Would recommend to everyone including foreigners with poor English as Neil’s pronunciation is very clear, what makes his speech easier to understand.

We highly recommend this tour. The history of Liverpool is incredible. Neil has so much knowledge and experience to share. He share the history of the buildings, the changes over the years. He weaved into the tour how his family was involved and lived in certain areas making it more personable. The pace and length of the tour was just perfect. Thank you so much it was a great way to start our city break.
