Tour description

Experience the darker side of Vienna's history with our "Hitler & the New Vienna 1900" tour.

Our knowledgeable local, licensed guides will take you on a high-quality free tour experience where you will learn about the rise and fall of Hitler and the Nazi regime, as well as the modern parts of the city center that stand in stark contrast to Nazi architecture.

This tour offers more than just a glimpse into Austria's past.

You'll also discover astonishing stories about the birth of modern Austria and the famous urbanization of Vienna. Our guides will showcase Otto Wagner's inventions and allow you to feel on top of the artistic vibes of MQ.

Our tour stops include:

  • Karlskirche: This baroque church was built in the early 18th century and is one of Vienna's most beautiful buildings. During the Nazi era, it was used as a storage facility for art stolen from Jewish families.
  • Naschmarkt: This bustling market is a foodie's paradise, but it also has a dark history. The market was the site of several mass deportations of Vienna's Jewish population during World War II.
  • Secession: This modernist building was designed by architect Joseph Maria Olbrich and is home to Gustav Klimt's famous "Beethoven Frieze." It was also used by the Nazis as an exhibition hall for their propaganda.
  • Wien Museum: This museum houses a collection of Vienna's cultural and historical artifacts. You'll learn about the city's rich history and see artifacts related to the Nazi era.

With our knowledgeable guides, you will learn about the unbelievable history, astonishing architecture, and hear fun stories and unexpected facts. Our goal is to provide you with a free tour of modern Vienna that is filled with good vibes, and to connect great guides with smart travelers.

We promise that you will not get this kind of prime experience on any other free city tour. So book your spot now and be ready for an unforgettable journey into the past and present of Vienna.

If you do other tours, expect some of the same information, but in the same well-relayed way. This tour with Christina provide a decent bit more that still makes it very worthwhile and enjoyable.

Loved this tour! Josef was funny and informative. A true war historian with a very pragmatic view. Highly recommend, as it is a walking tour with a difference but still full of great facts and laughs
