Free Tour of the Fortportal-Kasenda crater lakes.
Am a freelance tourist guide been doing tours for over five years. I studied tourism at the university and so passionate about nature and wildlife, and about using tourism as a tool for conservation and restoration. I volunteer with the Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve as a conservationist ensuring the restoration of indigenous tree species and extending the forest cover. No wonder it's at this place i normally meet with the people i walk around.
Tour description
Fortportal Crater Lakes Exploration!
Known for the highest concentration of crater lakes per square kilometer in the world, exploring the Fortportal Crater Lakes is an incredible experience.
Start from Lake Nkuruba from where you can see more than four species of monkeys and the oldest of the 52 different crater lakes around the Moon Mountains.
Continue to the Ndali Kasenda crater lakes, each lake has its own charm. Lake Nyinambuga is one of the largest and most beautiful lakes. His image appears on the 20,000 Ugandan shillings note.
During this tour, there is the option to visit the local vanilla farmer who shows you his vanilla farm, the entire process from planting to pollination and harvesting, lastly the drying process. However, he's much better when you buy him some vanilla, otherwise he requires a small fee to show you around.
This tour goes beyond the crater lakes as it takes you through the local villages to see how the locals live, the banana plantation, the local market, especially every Monday and Thursday there is a local farmers market .
You can choose to have lunch at the local restaurant or return to Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve for lunch at the Lake Nkuruba resort.
This tour lasts 3-4 hours, but there is the possibility to return to Bodaboda in case you get tired along the way, another amazing experience. Bodaboda is a local motorcycle taxi.
