Tour description

The urban artwork tells us the history of Nicaragua until the 19th century and offers a vision of the identity of Nicaraguans, illustrating their battles, chaotic and vibrant moments.

Precisely in one of these moments - in the 80s, in a time of struggle and reconstruction - the muralist movement was born, which soon spread like wildfire to such an extent that, in a short time, more than 1,000 murals were painted in Nicaragua.

Then it is the turn of other murals, which allude to the revolution - of which León has become the capital - and offer us some of the most representative images of the 20th century.
This free tour will be like watching a documentary about the past, present and perhaps the future of the country.

In two hours, I have learnt so much about Nicaragua! Marlon leads the tour in a very original way, portraying the country's history through murals. He's clever, super knowlegeable & professional, and his English is impeccable.

As a fan of street art culture, I was pretty disappointed by this tour. It followed basically the same route as the regular walking tour offered by this company and only really talked about 2 or 3 murals the entire 2 hours. Much attention was paid to describing the people and events in the murals, but nothing was mentioned of the artists or the messages that they intended to convey. Also, the murals spoken about in this tour were all commission works, which is a very small part of street art culture, and much less culturally significant than the various tags, pieces and murals that we passed by during the tour. This tour also took us into a museum which we had to pay for which for me personally is not acceptable on a free walking tour. The guide gave us a tour of the museum which, while the information was interesting, had literally nothing to do with street art. To sum up, I think the creators of this tour are unaware of what the street art movement is about. Perhaps they are trying to capitalize on the popularity of street art tours offered by other companies in other cities. You will get 90% of the info in this tour in the regular free walking tour offered by "the original". If you are wanting to learn about local artists, activism or cultural movements, you won't be very satisfied with this tour.

The booking was never confirmed and I never got a message telling whether the tour was happening or not or whether I could do it another day
