Hello! I am Basilio, professor of languages at the University of Strasbourg. I am a fan of the history and culture of this wonderful city. I have lived here for more than 11 years and with my colleagues, Erick, a student of the Master's in Interculturality, and Rémy, a student of the Faculty of Philosophy and Theology, we have created a professional project called Goliardos to share our knowledge with visitors to the alsatian region.

Tour description

Hello everyone!
The tour is in the center of Strasbourg, a World Heritage Site.

We will tell historical facts and cultural curiosities of this city that has passed from French and German rule seven times throughout history.

Is the Alsatian language a mixture of French and German?
Who is the real Iron Man?
Is Strasbourg Cathedral the tallest cathedral in the world?
Why is Christmas so beautiful in Strasbourg?
We will try to answer these and many other questions.
We will also find out who invented the printing press, why "La Petite France" is so beautiful, where the Covered Bridges are and what the "Vauban" dam is for.

This is a free tour, so the amount to pay is optional. If you don't know how much to give, some travelers give between "10" and "40" euros.

I look forward to accompanying you and making you take home a memorable souvenir of our city!

I’m a professional free tour guide, so this is the perspective I’m coming from. This tour was not great and could use a lot of improvement. Firstly, the guide arrived five minutes LATE, with no message or explanation that he was going to do so. I was about to leave. Second, he didn’t explain who he was, what he was doing in Strasbourg, how the tour would work, just went straight into talking about a nearby statue. Often he stood behind us rather than in front (a tour guide faux pas) and he spoke so quietly that even though there were only 3 of us, I could barely hear him sometimes. The thing that most annoyed me though was the lack of a narrative. Why am I here? What’s special about Strasbourg compared to other cities in the world. This was lacking. That said, Erick the guide clearly knew his facts and was able to answer every question. I also enjoyed some of his close reading of buildings and statues. Still, a lot of improvement is needed both in guiding skills and in the overall construction of the tour. Good luck.

Eric was a great guide, knowledgeable and organized. He was patient with all my questions and explained thoroughly. He had passion about Strasbourg, history and art and was absolutely keen to share all that with us :) such fun experience
