The immersive experience of true Città Alta
Hi! I'm Matteo, and I'm ready to meet you! I'm a passionate guy who loves epic stories, and Bergamo has always been the playground for my imagination. In years of wandering, I've treaded every alley and even the most hidden paths of Città Alta and the surrounding hills. I also love hiking in the Alps with my friends, both in Summer and Winter. What do I do when I'm not wandering around? Unfortunately, I spend a lot of time on books, that's the sad life of engineering students...
Tour description
Città Alta, behind its thick walls, perched on that imposing hill, with the Alps on its back, is majestic!
Watch out for all those slender clock towers! And the domes! Such elegance!
Alas, Bergamo is slowly transforming into a touristic city.
Luckily, it takes just one step off the main road to breathing the true spirit of the renaissance town.
Follow me, and I will guide you through the intricate alleys, without losing track of any of the monuments.
Ready to experience the town like a local?
How come Bergamo have those massive walls?
And why are there Venitian symbols all around?
Come with me! We will stop at a suggestive vantage point over the city, overlooking the vale. There, you'll hear stories of rivalries, impossible caravans, and strategy!
This tour will not take the main straight road through the center, but it will not neglect the monuments either. I will point them to you, and give an introduction, surely many anecdotes!
After the tour, you'll have an overall knowledge of what the city has to offer. This way you will be able to choose where to spend your time and money and you'll rely on specialized guides.
In our S-shaped path, we'll have the chance to glimpse old marketplaces, washhouses, and city tanks, but of course, we will tread Piazza Vecchia and the Keep, too!
Then, we'll leave the great Door of Sant'Alessandro behind us, to pass by the native house of the great composer G. Donizetti and then take a suggestive stair to the highest hill, San Vigilio.
Here, with the best panoramic view ever possible, I'll shoot all the photos you desire, and then we will depart.
----
All along, I will give you all the tips you desire: where to find traditional food or a Napoli-style pizza.
Tips on how to continue your tour?
You might spend some time walking in circles or Città Bassa.
Or... Did you notice there are 7 hills?
