Free Walking Tours at Dubai

An enjoyable and interesting walk lead by Abdullah through the old part of Dubai exploring the oldest dwellings of Dubai, now hotels and cafes but keeping the traditional architecture. We crossed the creek in an abra and moved in to explore the spice souk finishing up in the gold souk.

Discover ancient Dubai, its culture, and the souks.

When I met Hesham he was wearing an impressive Emirati white kandoora. Even though I was the only person on the walking tour Hesham impressed me with his professionalism and enthusiasm to provide me with an enjoyable tour of BUr Dubai and Deira. His knowledge of the areas he showed me was outstanding and it was clear he knew his stuff. We had samosas on the way as well as a ride on an abra which was fun. At the end of the tour he showed me to the nearest taxi point. The only thing I would say is to bring cash along with you to pay him. I unfortunately did not have cash and assumed he would have a card machine but he did not. I have been on walking tours around Europe and the guides give you the option to pay in cash or card. I think DUbai guides should also be given this option.I felt bad that I could not pay him and he was very gracious about it. I highly recommend Hesham as a guide. He deserves to be paid for his outstanding work. Thank you Hesham :)

An absolutely fantastic tour through Old Dubai! It covers so much ground, from the historic wind-tower houses to the lively markets. The abra boat ride was a beautiful highlight. The guide was excellent and gave great tips on navigating the souks and handling the street vendors. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. It’s a tip-based tour and the guides work incredibly hard, so please tip them well!

Taha is a very kind and considerate guide. He still led my tour even though I was the only one booked, and he even waited for me when I couldn't make it on time. When the tour ended, he made sure I knew how to navigate the metro to get where I needed to go. Taha also shared very detailed and interesting history about the UAE and the sheikhs. I especially enjoyed hearing about the clothing Emiratis wear and the economics of Abu Dhabi and Dubai compared to the other emirates. As for the route, it was lovely to visit the souks and take the boat ride once used by pearl divers. While visiting the gold souk, Taha explained how gold prices are calculated and how large pieces can be rented. I would have loved to hear more about the spice souk, though, rather than being led into a store where spices were marketed to me. There was no pressure to buy at all, but I would have preferred learning about the dishes people cook and how spices are used, instead of just "this is cardamom, this is saffron, this is mint." I also felt more information could have been shared throughout the tour—such as how the souks came to be, and more stories about local life, food, and culture. I would also have appreciated recommendations on what else to do after the tour and where to eat, without having to ask. Overall, I still learned a lot about the UAE, and I would definitely recommend Taha as a guide!

I had an amazing experience on this tour with Taha! He explained so much about Dubai, covering everything from its history and society to its politics and development. What I appreciated most was that he also shared his personal perspective on what it is really like to live in Dubai, which made the experience much more authentic and interesting. Would 100% recommend this tour to anyone visiting Dubai. Absolutely worth it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
