My name is Allan, I’m 43 years old and have been working as a tour guide since 2013 and in the tourism industry since 2003! I’m also a photographer and have graduated in journalism. I love traveling and have been lucky enough to have visited 102 countries so far in my life. I love sharing travel experiences and showing people around and giving them tips to enjoy a place.
Everyone have heard of the World Famous Ipanema and Copacabana beaches in Rio. What not many people have heard is that Rio has many other stunning beaches, probably way nicer and more beautiful than the Ipanema and Copacabana.
At the west zone of Rio you can find beaches that are located in conservation areas, therefore there are no buildings or developed constructions, making it those idyllic destinations that very few urban areas around the World are able to offer.
In this walking tour I invite you to see and experience some of the most beaches and costal areas of the city and perhaps the country.
We will start at Recreio beach, in front of Posto 12 lifeguard station and make our way to Macumba beach (a surfer's paradise), than we will stop at Secreto beach, a little hidden natural pool, that even most of cariocas haven’t seen or even knows about it.
Next stop is Prainha beach, another surfer’s spot, where there is a park with a nice and relatively easy trail to Mirante do Caetê, which is a viewpoint with some amazing views.
Afterwards we will make our way back and can stop for a well deserved drink at a bar with some of the most beautiful view in Rio next to Prainha.
And finally we will head to Grumari beach, the star of the day, a 2.5km white sand beach surrounded by rainforest and one of the few spots in Rio that perhaps still looks just the same as 5 centuries ago when the first Portuguese sailors arrived.
This waking tour is about 4-6 hours long, depending on how long the participants like to stay at Grumari beach, as a deep in the water is highly recommended. The whole walk is about 12-15 km roundtrip, depending if we just visit the beginning of the Grumari beach or walk all the way to the end.
Please make sure to bring sunglasses, sunscreen and some comfortable hiking shoes as well as a swimming suit as Grumari beach green water is very inviting.
Looking forward to show you some of my beloved hometown of Rio that not may people knows about it since is a bit far from the main attractions.
We will meet near the Posto 12 lifeguard station at the Recreio beach. I will have a red umbrella to make it easy to recognize me.
