Hi, I am Marius! I live in the city of Berat, Albania. I have been living mostly in the city and I am always searching for new information about the city and its people in the past and today. I have come to interpret many interesting facts about the city and how those compare with other cities in the region. I would love to share with you these insights, how historical conditions affected human lives and the city itself, all the while witnessing the historical beautiful monuments existing today woven in a unique landascape.
Dear Visitors! I would be very glad to guide you to the beautiful city of Berat. During the tour, we will visit many monuments of culture, especially historic houses, religious buildings, and fortifications all embedded in a stunning landscape.
I would offer an interpretation of historical circumstances that created the past realities which have materialized on the buildings that we will visit.
The tour is both exciting and enlightening offering many explanations of historic phenomena that we see reflected in many cities in the Balkans.
We will start our visit in the center of the city, in front of the Saint Demetrius Orthodox Cathedral. We will walk through the modern part of Berat towards the historic center, facing Mangalem Quarter. We will then visit the Medieval Center and walk up towards the castle of Berat. In the castle we will visit many of the historic landmarks all while enjoying the scenery.

In the castle of Berat, we will visit the fortifications while explaining the history. We will go past the religious monuments and explain their high number and historical development. Then we will walk in the middle of the castle, explaining how people have been living to this day and their social and economic conditions. On the background we would see the hinterland of the city of Berat and explain some of the natural landmarks.
The Medieval Center of Berat was the old center of Berat. It has islamic monuments set in a medieval environment.
Mangalem Quarter is otherwise known as 1000 windows. It is the emblematic quarter of the city. In Mangalem historic houses with numerous windows line the slope of the hill.
The Republica Bulevard is the main promenade of the city of Berat. It goes past the modern bars and cafes near the center of the city. The Bulevard leads towards the historic center.
The Helveti Tekke is an historic religious monument used by the Helveti order of the Sufi sect. It has an outstanding architecture and many works of art painted inside.
The panoramic point in the castle of Berat offers the best view of the city of Berat. It dominates the city on three sides and it is the place of many historical events.
The church of Saint Mary Blacherna is the oldest byzantine church in the city of Berat with many histories. It is a testimony to ancient christianity in Berat.
The Onufri Museum hosts a great collection of old paintings by some of the best painters of Berat over the centuries.
