The Palace was built in the 19th century and is known for its exotic architecture and lush gardens. It combines Gothic, Renaissance and Indian elements, creating a unique blend of architectural styles. It was commissioned by the English Sir Francis Cook, who fell in love with the Sintra region and decided to build a luxurious summer residence. The gardens are an outstanding example of 19th-century Romantic landscaping.
Lagoa dos Mosqueiros is a beautiful lake located in Sintra. Less known than its neighbor Lagoa Azul but equally stunning. The access to it is more difficult but there are several trails to get there and some of them are among the most beautiful in the area. It can be reached by continuing along the Trilho das Pontes until Convento dos Capuchos from Barragem do Rio da Mula. It is a popular trail for hiking and mountain biking.
Convento dos Capuchos was founded in the 16th century and is known for its simplicity and natural integration with the surrounding landscape. The convent is situated on the side of a hill, surrounded by lush greenery and offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. The convent also features a small chapel, several living quarters, and a vegetable garden. It is a unique and serene destination for those interested in history, architecture, and nature.
Monte Rodel is a pyramid-shaped granitic agglomerate located practically in the center of the Serra de Sintra. It is also called Monte Rodelo and has a privileged view over the north slope and the Atlantic Ocean. The view from the top is truly spectacular. Monte Rodel is not, however, one of the highest points in the mountain range, but it is an excellent viewpoint over the Palace of Monserrate and the valley and floodplain of Colares.
Built in 1860, it is known for its beautiful gardens and impressive architecture. The highlight of Quinta das Sequóias is the Meneses Palace, built in neo-Gothic style, in addition to the presence of a chapel, a lake and a bridge. The property takes its name from the presence of redwoods, trees that contribute to the enchanting landscape of the place.
