Discover the Soul of Old Baghdad — A Journey Through Time
Imagine stepping into a living museum, where every street corner tells a story and every brick whispers the secrets of centuries past. Join me on a captivating walking tour that will transport you to the heart of Iraq’s rich cultural heritage — a journey unlike any other!
Our adventure begins at the gates of the Iraqi Tourism and Antiquities Authority on Haifa Street. From there, we cross the iconic Martyrs’ Bridge, linking the historic districts of Karkh and Rusafa. Our first stop is the enchanting Baghdadi Museum (entry 2,000 IQD), where you will discover the customs, traditions, and daily life of Baghdad’s people throughout the ages.
Next, we dive into the magical Safafeer Market, a bustling traditional souk famous for its handmade copper crafts — a paradise for lovers of authentic art. Our journey continues to the vibrant Al-Mutanabbi Street, the beating heart of Baghdad’s literary and intellectual life. Here, we’ll savor a cup of tea at the legendary Shabandar Café, soaking in the spirit of countless poets and writers.
After capturing memorable photos at the Al-Mutanabbi Statue, we’ll venture deeper into Old Baghdad, wandering among Ottoman-era buildings, including the historic residence of the Wali (Governor) of Baghdad. Our final destination is the majestic Abbasid Palace (entry 25,000 IQD), where echoes of a glorious civilization still linger in the air.
