Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Walking Tour & Hidden Stories

Our tour begins at the Atomic Bomb Hypocenter Park, the point directly beneath where the atomic bomb detonated approximately 500 meters above the city on August 9, 1945. Marked by a simple black stone monument, this site serves as a solemn reminder of the moment that changed Nagasaki forever.

Next, we visit the remains of Urakami Cathedral, once one of the largest Christian churches in East Asia. The preserved ruins stand as a symbol of both devastation and the resilience of the local community.

We then explore the ground-level area beneath the hypocenter, helping visitors understand the scale of destruction caused instantly by the explosion.

Continuing through the area, we encounter various statues and memorials, each sharing messages of remembrance, hope, and international peace. We also visit a preserved air-raid shelter, offering insight into how civilians tried to protect themselves during wartime.

Our journey continues into Peace Park, a place dedicated to remembrance and the promotion of world peace. Here, you will see statues donated by different countries, symbolizing global unity and a shared wish for a nuclear-free world.

At the center of the park, we stop at the Peace Bell, a symbol of remembrance and a call for world peace, which is rung during official ceremonies.

Nearby stands the iconic Peace Statue, with one hand pointing upward to warn of the threat of nuclear weapons and the other extended horizontally to symbolize peace.

Finally, we visit the Fountain of Peace, built in memory of the victims who suffered from severe thirst after the bombing, providing a deeply moving conclusion to the tour.
