Belfry of Bruges Belfry of Bruges (Belfort) Standing proudly in the Market Square (Markt), the Belfry of Bruges is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. This medieval bell tower reaches a height of 83 meters and offers one of the most stunning panoramic views of Brugge. Originally part of the city's municipal government, it housed a bell that rang to signal important civic events. Built between 1376 and 1420, it remains an impressive testament to the city’s civic pride and its importance as a center of commerce, politics, and culture in the Middle Ages.
