Katowice Essentials. 2.5h guided tour in a small group.
Tour description
Hello and welcome to Katowice!
My name is Gregorio, and I’ve been living in this city for the past three years.
Here, I’ve studied Polish Philology—focusing on history, linguistics, and literature—and developed a strong interest in the architecture and history of the Silesia region.
For me, cities are like living books, and Katowice is one full of surprising chapters. During the Tour, I’ll guide you through the streets of the city as we uncover tales from the past and explore the beauty that surrounds us:
1. We’ll begin our tour in the southern part of the city, at Plac Andrzeja, where we’ll learn about Katowice’s foundation and its complex history.
2. Then, we’ll discover some of the finest examples of modernist architecture—not only in Katowice but in all of Poland. We will see a modernist church and the first skyscraper built in Poland. We will also visit one of the largest cathedrals in the country.
3. After a short 10-minute walk, we’ll take a break to talk about Katowice in the 1920s—a period of major change in Silesia.
4. Next, we’ll head to the city center to see the Market Square and the Silesian Theatre.
5. Finally, we’ll end our tour at the Silesian Insurgents Memorial, summing up the stories and history we’ve explored along the way.
After the tour, you’ll receive my personal list of recommendations for the best places to eat, visit, and enjoy in the beautiful city of Katowice!
