Tour description

The Gold Museum is a cultural jewel that safeguards the memory and legacy of pre-Hispanic peoples, with more than 34,000 pieces made of gold, tumbaga, copper, and other precious metals.
In this free tour, you will learn about the stories, myths, and meanings behind each piece, exploring how ancient cultures transformed metal into sacred art.
1. Metals Room: The art of transforming metal, you will discover the techniques mastered by indigenous goldsmiths.
These pieces were offerings intended for the gods, symbols of authority, and elements used in ceremonies that marked the cycle of life and death.
2. Pre-Columbian Peoples Room: Cultural diversity and worldview
We will explore the works of the Muisca, Tairona, Calima, Quimbaya, Zenú, San Agustín, and Tolima cultures, among others.
3. Offering Room: An encounter with the sacred
Amidst enveloping lights and sounds, we will relive the indigenous offering rituals that took place in sacred lagoons, caves, or temples.
Here, the Muisca Raft stands out, the most famous piece in the museum, representing the mythical El Dorado rite.
4. Treasure Room: Shine, power, and symbolism
The last part of the tour immerses us in a dazzling collection of ceremonial jewelry, breastplates, nose rings, and necklaces that reflect the mastery of ancient goldsmiths.
