Free Walking tour of Nice for Families with Autism and Sensory issues
This tour is specially designed to meet the needs of families with autism and sensory issues.
We will start our tour at Place Saint-François, one of Nice’s oldest squares. You’ll notice how the architecture blends the medieval and the modern, reflecting Nice’s story of resilience and reinvention.Walking to the Coulée Verte, also known as the Promenade du Paillon, offers us a tranquil refuge from the urban energy. The promenade was built over the River Paillon, which once flowed openly through Nice but was gradually covered during the 19th and 20th centuries, symbolizing the city’s growth during the Belle Époque, when Nice became a favored destination.
We’ll pause in quieter spots to enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace. Benches shaded by Mediterranean trees provide rest areas to recharge.
Crossing into Vieux Nice, or Old Nice, we step into a different world —a labyrinth of narrow streets, colorful facades, and timeworn stone. This is the city’s historic core, where every corner tells a story. We will look at Palais Lascaris and search for the hidden faces. Nearby, we pay tribute to Catherine Ségurane, a legendary washerwoman who, according to tradition, helped defend the city in 1543.
The final stop is Place Masséna, the grand heart of Nice. This large square connects the historic and modern parts of the city. Its bold red façades and checkerboard pavement contrast with the greenery of the Promenade du Paillon. At the center stands the Fountain of the Sun, featuring Apollo surrounded by bronze figures representing mythological planets.
The tour lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes
