Tour description

Our Al-Darb al-Ahmar tourist route will take you on a journey down the lane of history, where we will show you 16 of the most fascinating monuments of Islamic Egypt from the Fatimid, Ayyubid, and Mamluk eras to the Ottoman eras that followed, leaving glories of Islamic architecture and a constantly growing metropolis in their wake.

The district, a labyrinth of narrow and winding alleys dotted with medieval mosques, mausoleums, palaces, schools, complexes, and even 700-year-old ancient craft markets whose owners are as talented and skilled as ever.

My tours connect visitors with a past and a way of life that remains in very few places in the world today. A variety of traditional crafts are made there, from brass lanterns, to shops, glassware, and furniture inlaid with mother-of-pearl, using designs that are unique to the Egyptian culture, local Egyptian food from the city of Cairo and the district itself.

Bab Zuwayla

It is one of the gates of the Fatimid Cairo's walls, located on the southern side. It was built by the Fatimid Vizier Badr al-Gamali during the reign of the Fatimid Caliph al-Mustansir in 485 AH/1092 AD, about five years after the construction of the Bab al-Nasr and Bab al-Futuh on the northern side.

Mosque of al-Salih Tala'i

is a mosque located in Al-Darb al-Ahmar, south of Bab Zuweila, just outside the southern entrance to Islamic Cairo, Egypt. The mosque was built by the Fatimid vizier, Tala'i ibn Ruzzik.
