The dream of Alfonso VIII. Free Tour in the historic center of Plasencia

The tour lasts 2 hours
Available in Spanish

Description

Discover Plasencia like never before: through the eyes of its founder, King Alfonso VIII of Castile.

On this free tour we will explore the historic center —a medieval enclosure of 26 hectares— to understand how the decisions of a king in the 12th century shaped the destiny of the city to this day.

During our tour within the city walls, we'll stroll through Plasencia's historic districts and visit some of its most iconic landmarks: early churches, former hospitals, convents, and palatial homes like the Palace of the Marquises. We'll also explore must-see sites such as the Plaza Mayor, the city walls, and the Torre Lucía, the city's most important tower.

And, of course, we will take an exterior tour of its cathedrals, a unique collection in Spain that reflects the importance that Plasencia achieved throughout the centuries.

But this isn't just a historical tour: it's a story that connects past and present. Because in Plasencia, Alfonso VIII isn't just history… he's part of everyday life.

During the visit you will discover how three key decisions by the king —which we will reveal little by little— transformed Plasencia into one of the most important cities in the Kingdom of Castile and marked its evolution for centuries.

A dynamic, enjoyable and different tour, where you will understand not only what to see in Plasencia, but why it is the way it is today.

👉 If you want to discover the history that shaped the city… this is your tour.
