The Dream of Alfonso VIII. Free Tour in the Historic Center of Plasencia

Discover Plasencia like never before: through the eyes of its founder, King Alfonso VIII of Castile.

In this free tour, we will explore the historic center—a medieval area of 26 hectares—to understand how the decisions of a king in the 12th century shaped the destiny of the city up to the present day.

Throughout the intramural tour, we will stroll through the major historic neighborhoods of Plasencia and visit some of the city's most representative elements: primitive churches, old hospitals, convents, and palace houses like the Palace of the Marquises. We will also visit essential places such as the Plaza Mayor, the wall, and the Torre Lucía, the most important in the city.

And, of course, we will make an exterior visit to its cathedrals, a unique ensemble in Spain that reflects the importance Plasencia achieved over the centuries.

But this is not just a historical walk: it is a story that connects past and present. Because in Plasencia, Alfonso VIII is not just history… he is part of everyday life.

During the visit, you will discover how three key decisions by the king—which we will gradually reveal—transformed Plasencia into one of the most important cities in the Kingdom of Castile and marked its evolution for centuries.

A dynamic, enjoyable, and different tour, where you will understand not only what to see in Plasencia but why it is the way it is today.

👉 If you want to discover the history that shaped the city… this is your tour.
