Yogyakarta Living History Walking Tour

A great introduction to Jogjakarta history! Having the chance to learn from Tara about the sultan’s place and how the land has changed throughout time to shape what a part of Jogja is nowadays was so interesting! Tara won’t just throw random info but does it in a way that you can connect the dots between the different spots in a fun and interesting way! :) I wasn’t sure about booking a tour, but having this walk made me realize I’d have missed that piece that makes the whole picture clear. We had an amazing tour through the historical highlights of Yogyakarta with Tarra. He guided us through the Kraton (Royal Palace), made a stop at a mosque, showed us the beautiful Water Palace, and showed us a traditional food market. Everything was perfectly organized, and we didn’t have to worry about tickets or logistics at all. Tarra is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also genuinely fun and engaging. As a young local, he knows the city extremely well and has a great way of making sure everyone is having a good time while sharing interesting insights about the places we visited. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. We didn’t just have a great guide, we feel like we made a new friend. We would absolutely do another tour with Tarra and can highly recommend him without hesitation!

Despite the gloomy weather at the start of the day, we had one of the best town tours thanks to Tara and Guruwalk! Our young guide, Tara, took us to the most characteristic spots in Jogja, sharing interesting anecdotes and historical facts along the way. Very friendly and empathetic, and attentive to our needs, he also took us to try some Javanese specialties mid-morning. He was also very helpful in giving recommendations about local activities, restaurants, and more. We highly recommend the tour with Tara, a very kind and thoughtful person! — he is also an excellent photographer!
