Tortosa Cathedral (interior)

The tour lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes
Available in Catalan, English and Spanish

Description

Discover the Cathedral of Tortosa through a journey spanning over eight centuries of history, art, and memory of the city.
The visit begins in the epigraphy room and continues through the underground passages used as an air-raid shelter during the Civil War (1936-1939). From there, we access the old Canonry: medieval quarters, Pia Almoina, and Refectory, where part of the cathedral's treasure is preserved: altarpieces, tapestries, codices, bishops' attire, and other exceptional pieces.

We will also visit the old dormitory of the canons, now an exhibition space, where the magnificent choir stalls stand out.
In the cloister, we will discover the Stone of the Three Powers, its six sundials, numerous funerary epitaphs, and two Romanesque capitals preserved from the old cathedral.
Finally, we will enter the temple to admire the spectacular Baroque chapel of Our Lady of the Ribbon, the Baptistery and its unique font linked to Pope Luna, the extraordinary double Gothic ambulatory, and the main altarpiece dedicated to Our Lady of the Star.
The approximate duration of the tour is 1 hour and 45 minutes (it may extend, depending on the interest of the group).
The entrance fee to the Cathedral is €5 per person.
Book this tour now, which is much more than a cathedral: a journey through the history of Tortosa. The Cathedral of the Ebro.

Guiding since 2022
In Tortosa the most exciting thing is the history of its city and its territory of influence since the time of the Iberians. I am passionate about history, especially my territory and ancient times, especially the Middle Ages and the Order of the Temple. My special interest is Romanesque and Gothic architecture, where we can explore sacred geometries and construction. It is the differentiating attraction of the routes that I carry out, finding and showing the mystery, its special location, the antiquity of the place, stories and legends... Feeling and making people feel that the stones also speak.
