Embark on a charming day trip from Rome to Siena, one of Tuscany’s most enchanting medieval cities. With the ease and comfort of Italy's high-speed trains, you’ll travel to Siena in just over two hours, allowing you to explore its captivating history, stunning architecture, and unique culture.
The scenic train journey through the picturesque Tuscan countryside is the perfect introduction to the beauty that awaits in Siena.
Upon arrival in Siena, you’ll step into a city frozen in time. Known for its medieval architecture and historical significance, Siena is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Begin with a visit to Piazza del Campo, one of Europe’s most famous medieval squares, and the setting for the world-renowned Palio di Siena horse race.
Admire the stunning Siena Cathedral (Duomo), a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, and don’t miss the breath-taking Piccolomini Library inside the cathedral, with its colourful frescoes and remarkable art.
After exploring the key landmarks, take some time to wander through Siena’s charming narrow streets, lined with quaint shops and cozy cafes. Stroll along the Via di Città, the main thoroughfare, and discover hidden gems, including artisanal stores selling traditional Sienese products and local wines.
Siena is also famous for its delicious pastries, so be sure to try ricciarelli (soft almond cookies) or a panforte (spiced fruitcake). Indulge in authentic Tuscan cuisine at a local trattoria. Enjoy pasta al ragù, hearty ribollita soup, or a classic bistecca alla fiorentina, all complemented by a glass of Chianti wine, which Siena and the surrounding region are known for.
After a day of exploring Siena’s rich history, art, and culinary delights, board the high-speed train back to Rome. Enjoy the scenic journey back, reflecting on your memorable day in one of Italy’s most beautiful medieval cities.
