Most visitors to Osaka never make it to Minoh. That's exactly why you should go.
Just 30 minutes by train from the city centre, Minoh is where locals come to breathe. Your tour begins at Hankyu Minoh Station, where you'll meet your guide — a local who has walked these trails for years and knows every corner of the forest.
From the station, you'll step onto the Takimichi trail, a gentle path that follows a crystal-clear mountain stream deep into the forest. Almost immediately, the noise of the city disappears. Towering cedar and maple trees close in around you, and the air changes — cooler, greener, alive.
This is where we slow down. Together, we'll practise forest bathing — the Japanese art of opening your senses to the natural world around you. You might close your eyes and listen to the stream. You might touch the bark of an ancient tree, or notice the smell of damp moss after rain. There's no rush, no destination yet. Just the forest.
As we walk deeper along the trail, your guide will share stories — about the history of Minoh, about life as a local in Osaka, about the small things most tourists never get to hear. This is a small group of maximum 6 guests, so there's always space for real conversation.
After around 75 minutes of walking, you'll hear it before you see it: the roar of Minoh Falls. Standing at the base of this 33-meter cascade — one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls — is one of those moments that stays with you. Your guide will share the story of the falls: a sacred site drawing pilgrims and monks for over 1,300 years.
Take your time here. Breathe it in.
Then we turn back along the trail at a relaxed pace, the conversation flowing naturally as the forest opens up around us once more.
The tour ends with a stop at a hidden local café — the kind of place that doesn't appear in any guidebook, tucked quietly into the hillside and loved by neighbourhood regulars. It's the perfect place to sit down, rest your legs, and let the morning settle. Food and drinks are at your own expense.
This is not a bus tour. There are no matching hats, no rushed photo stops, no script. It's a walk through one of Osaka's most beautiful hidden corners, with someone who actually calls it home.
