The Portuguese capital Lisbon is one of the most popular city destinations in Europe for cruise guests. Throughout its long history, it has repeatedly absorbed cultural influences from far-flung countries. The touch of history can be felt in every quarter of the city. This audio guide accompanies you on a 2 to 3 hour tour through the most interesting parts of the old town. Most cruise ships dock at the cruise terminal, so the tour begins and ends directly at the terminal. You first walk up to the impressive Igreja de Santa Engrácia, the National Pantheon of Portugal. After passing the monastery of Igreja São Vicente de Fora you arrive at the viewpoint Portas do Sol. From here you will have a great view over the old town to the river Tejo. You walk further up o the fortress Castelo de São Jorge and on the way to the Cathedral Sé Patriacal you will also see the ruins of the ancient roman theatre. Now the tours goes down to the district of Baixa. Many facades there are covered with the typical portugues tiles called Azulejos. The historical elevator "Elevador de Santa Justa" is one of the most famous sights of Lisbon. Walking along the boulevard Rua Augusta you go through the triumphal arch and reach the central Praça do Comércio where the palace of the king of portugal was situated before the earthquake of 1755 destroyed the city. On the way back to the cruise terminal you will see some more historical buildings and also pass the Fado museum. You walk the whole tour at the speed you prefer and you have time to take fotos, to go shopping or to have a nice rest in a bar or a cafe.
