Located just 50 minutes from Reykjavík, this small-group hike takes you through one of Iceland's most active volcanic regions. Every eruption has reshaped the landscape, creating new lava fields, fissures, and volcanic formations that continue to evolve.

Along the way, your guide shares personal stories, local history, geology, and insights you won't find on a self-guided hike. Every tour also includes one small Icelandic surprise.

Hiking details: • Distance: Approx. 8 km round trip • Elevation gain: Approx. 300 m • Walking time: Up to 4 hours • Difficulty: Moderate, with a flexible pace adapted to the group

Self-drive option: Meet your guide in Grindavík at 10:45 AM. This option is only suitable for travelers with a rental car. After meeting your guide, you'll follow them to the volcano parking area. Parking fees are not included.

Pickup option: Includes return transportation from Reykjavík, a short introduction to Grindavík, and the guided volcano hike. During summer or when conditions allow, the return journey may include stops at Seltún Geothermal Area and Kleifarvatn Lake.

All photos are from real tours. Volcanic activity is unpredictable, and visible lava can never be guaranteed. If an eruption is active and authorities allow safe access, we adjust the route to reach the best legal viewing areas. Otherwise, the experience focuses on recent lava fields, volcanic formations, and the remarkable story behind Iceland's newest eruptions.

Please read all tour details before booking. Routes, timings, and stops may change due to weather, trail conditions, road closures, or volcanic activity. Stops at Kleifarvatn and Seltún may not be possible during winter or when roads are closed.

• Arriving by taxi or shuttle is not possible.
• By completing your booking, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted all tour information.
• If there’s an eruption, we adjust the hike to visit it when possible. Lava is visible only during eruptions. The path may be shared, but the value is in the guidance. Red lava view cannot be predicted or guaranteed.
• Only pickup tours include Seltún and Kleifarvatn. Stops at Kleifarvatn and Seltún may be inaccessible during the winter months if roads are closed due to heavy snow or slippery conditions.
• Self-driving is only for travelers with a rental car.
• This activity combines two booking options (Pickup and Self-Drive). Pickup is limited to 7 guests. Self-Drive guests meet the guide in Grindavík before the hike. Depending on the mix of bookings, the guided hike may include up to 13 participants per guide.
• You’ll follow the guide's directions in your car to the volcano parking lot (fees apply). After the hike, you continue on your own.
