CAPUCHIN CRYPTS & DARK CENTRE

Begin in the Capuchin Crypts, where the bones of thousands of Capuchin friars form elaborate patterns, arches and chandeliers. Beautiful? Disturbing? You have time to decide.

Before you enter, your guide introduces the crypts’ history, explains the symbolism of the arrangements and explores memento mori: the reminder that, however impressive your plans, mortality has the final say.

You’ll explore the crypts independently with the included audio guide, as the venue's own policies limit live tour guides inside.

Your guide meets you immediately afterwards for a live walking tour through Rome’s grand centre, uncovering the unsettling stories behind its elegant streets and famous squares. Those postcard views come with quite a history.

Our original Rome Ghost Tour leads you into the atmospheric lanes and shadowy piazzas of the city after dark.

THE BARE BONES

Your combo includes two distinct experiences: the Capuchin Crypts and a guided walk through Rome’s dark centre, plus our evening Ghosts & Legends walking tour.

Each tour lasts approximately two hours. Take both on the same evening with a break between them, or spread the darkness across separate nights.

Expect macabre history, enduring ghost legends and a healthy streak of gallows humour, delivered through award-winning storytelling.

The postcards can wait. Rome has some explaining to do.

Know before you go

• Arrive 10 minutes early - ghosts are punctual, and so are we.
• No large bags, backpacks, or flash photography allowed inside the Crypt. The monks were minimalists.
• Rain or shine, we walk - bring an umbrella or embrace the atmosphere.
• Shoulders and knees must be covered inside the Capuchin Crypt. No covering? No problem - you can buy one for €1 at the entrance.
• The tour involves walking and standing for about two hours - but honestly, sitting makes you an easier target.
• Under the Capuchin Crypts’ own regulations, live tour guides are not allowed inside, due to space and noise restrictions. Inside the crypts, an audio guide is provided. Your guide will give a thorough introduction and explanation outside, and will be the actual guide for the walking tour.
• Wear comfortable shoes - Roman cobblestones are charming, slippery, and unforgiving.
