Meet your guide at Kintetsu Nara Station and begin with a gentle walk around the Kofukuji Temple area, where you can feel the historic atmosphere of central Nara without rushing into the busiest tourist paths.
From there, continue to Isuien Garden, one of Nara’s most beautiful traditional gardens. With carefully arranged ponds, stepping stones, teahouse views, and borrowed scenery from the surrounding hills, Isuien offers a calm introduction to the elegance of old Nara.
After the garden, walk through the quieter paths near Yoshikien and the back side of the Todaiji area. This part of the route gives you a different impression of Nara Park: less about crowds and more about soft greenery, stone paths, and hidden corners.
Visit Ukimido and Sagiike Pond, a scenic waterside spot where the pavilion appears to float above the water. It is one of the most peaceful photo spots in Nara and a beautiful place to pause.
Continue into Takabatake, a quiet neighborhood known for its literary and cultural atmosphere. Unlike the busy temple approach streets, Takabatake feels local, calm, and deeply connected to Nara’s intellectual history. Around the former residence of writer Naoya Shiga, experience a more thoughtful side of the city, where architecture, gardens, and quiet lanes create a unique mood.
Finally, walk toward Naramachi, Nara’s old merchant district. Here, narrow streets, traditional townhouses, small shops, and nostalgic details reveal the everyday charm of the city.
