Lisbon & Belém Like Locals: Guided Walking Tour & Tram Ride

Start your day at the S. Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint, one of the coolest hangouts in Lisbon. Right off the bat, you’ll notice this isn’t your typical sightseeing tour - no rushing into monuments or standing in endless lines. Instead, it’s all about soaking up the vibe of Lisbon, figuring out how to get around like a local, and seeing how each neighborhood fits together like a real-life map.

First up is Chiado, one of Lisbon’s classiest spots, where you will enjoy the atmosphere, check out the awesome architecture, the lively streets, the cafés, and the local buzz. This is where you’ll feel Lisbon’s creative and intellectual energy. A short walk brings you to Praça do Carmo, where you’ll see the haunting ruins of the old convent, still standing after the 1755 earthquake.

Next, we’ll cruise over to Praça dos Restauradores and head toward Avenida da Liberdade. This part is all about getting your bearings - seeing how Lisbon stretches out, where locals work and shop, and how the city’s layout shapes daily life.

Then it’s on to Praça do Rossio, one of the city’s main hubs, to soak up the energy, the symmetry, and how this spot connects different parts of the city. We’ll wander into Mouraria, one of Lisbon’s oldest neighborhoods and the birthplace of Fado, where we can take in the street atmosphere where this iconic music was born.

The walk leads up to Miradouro das Portas do Sol, one of the best viewpoints in town. Here, you’ll really get your bearings - see how Alfama stretches toward the river and how Lisbon is built on hills and layers.

Heading down into Alfama, we’re not diving into monuments - we’re checking out how people actually live in one of Europe’s oldest neighborhoods. We’ll pass by the outside of Lisbon Cathedral and Casa dos Bicos, just taking in their place in the city’s story.

We’ll wrap up the morning at Praça do Comércio, a massive riverside square where Lisbon’s history of trade and exploration comes alive.

From here, hop on Tram 15E to LX Factory, a former industrial area turned creative hotspot. This part of the tour is all about modern Lisbon - think design, food, and a laid-back, artsy vibe. Lunch is totally up to you - go for some classic Portuguese eats or try out some fusion dishes inspired by the city’s history.

In the afternoon, hop back on Tram 15E toward Belém. This stretch is all about Lisbon’s connection to the world. Stroll along the river and get a feel for how geography shaped Portugal’s seafaring adventures. Check out the outside of Belém Tower, Padrão dos Descobrimentos, and Jerónimos Monastery. We’re not going in - just appreciating why they’re here, what they stand for, and how they tie Lisbon to its past. Finish off with a Pastel de Belém - a sweet local treat that wraps up your day with a real taste of Lisbon’s history and everyday life.
