The adventure kicks off at Reykjavik Airport as we board a helicopter that will take us toward the Hengill geothermal zone.
As we ascend, notice the vibrant houses of the capital becoming smaller beneath us. We’ll also pass iconic landmarks of Reykjavik, including the stunning Hallgrimskirkja Church and the Harpa Concert Hall.
In the horizon, the Hengill geothermal area comes into view, sprawling over 100 square kilometers (38.6 square miles). This region is recognized as one of Iceland's most extensive geothermal fields, comprising three volcanic systems.
Interestingly, the last known eruption in Hengill took place over 2000 years ago. From above, you’ll have the chance to observe the thermal vents and geysers dispersed across the landscape, serving as evidence of the area's volcanic activity.
Upon completing our aerial exploration, we will land at a designated area where you'll be invited to trek across ancient lava fields and small craters. Here, you can witness the bubbling water emerging from the ground and the striking colors of gases escaping the earth, creating an otherworldly atmosphere.
After your exploration of Hengill on foot, we'll reboard the helicopter and make our return flight. This leg of the journey will offer sweeping views of magnificent mountains, charming valleys, and additional lava terrains.
This memorable experience will conclude as we touch down at Reykjavik Airport after approximately one hour.
