Details of the Day Trip

At the predetermined time, our meeting point will be in the heart of Munich. From there, we will board a bus and journey towards Berchtesgaden, a picturesque town embraced by the enchanting Bavarian Alps and situated near the German-Austrian border.

Once in this charming Alpine town, take a moment to savor the crisp mountain air. You will then proceed to the Obersalzberg station, which serves as the starting point for excursions to the Kehlsteinhaus. This alpine residence, referred to as the Eagle's Nest, was built during the Third Reich exclusively for the top echelon of the Nazi Party.

To gain access to this remarkable site, perched at over 6,000 ft (1,834 m) on the peak of Kehlstein Mountain, you will ride an elevator carved into the mountainside (this cost is not included). Within the walls of the structure (entrance not included), you'll encounter an array of maps and artifacts relevant to Hitler and his regime during critical moments of the Second World War. The area outside the Eagle's Nest offers a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the rugged peaks, sweeping valleys, and lush forests of the Bavarian Alps that stretch below.

Your guided exploration of Kehlsteinhaus will last approximately 2 hours before descending the mountain via the lift. Once at the base, a visit to Grafenhöhe, a local restaurant set in the foothills, awaits, where you'll have around one hour and fifteen minutes to enjoy lunch (not included).

Following your meal, we will commence our return trip to the original meeting location in Munich, concluding this informative journey after spending about 10 to 10.5 hours in total.

Instructions

The bus will depart at the scheduled time from Karlsplatz, 21 opposite the Munich Kaufhof Gallery. Please be at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time.

The meeting point is easily reached by public transport, being right next to the Hauptbahnhof metro and train station.

Important information

On arrival in Obersalzberg, you must purchase the combined ticket for entrance, bus and elevator which costs 33EUR per person.
In the case that adverse weather conditions prohibit access to the Eagle's Nest, you'll hear about its history at the base of the mountain, and visit the nearby Berchtesgaden Salt Mines instead. The entrance for the salt mines is 17EUR per person.
